About Dehiwala Zoo
Even though it is a home to a large variety of animals and birds, the Dehiwala Zoo is a letdown compared to international standards. Visitors complain of the poor condition of animals, including wretched sights of chained elephants, undersized cages and overpriced tickets. The zoo is well organized, and contains exhibits for reptiles and amphibians as well, including elephant and sea lion performance shows. However, just the sad state of animals, their malnourished bodies and fading structures are enough to make people regret their visit. For families with little children, of course the zoo is a good attraction, but a definite no-go for other tourists.
