About

The Botanical Garden of Kolkata also known as Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden or Calcutta Botanical Garden is situated in Shibpur, Howrah near Kolkata. This is the oldest of all the Botanical Gardens in India. Sprawling over 109 hectares of land, the Botanical Garden has approximately 12,000 species of flora. The major crowd puller of the botanical garden is the giant Banyan tree with a circumference of 330 meters.

The collection of the botanical garden includes palm trees, orchids, bamboos, screw pine genus etc. The pond with water lilies looks quite beautiful. The lake view from the Banyan Avenue mesmerizes the visitors. Fox and Jackals can be sighted inside the botanical garden.
