About Pidurangala Rock
It is said that Pidurangala is has emerged as a rock out of a volcanic activity. It is a huge formation of a rock and is located near Sirigiya Rock. The upper portion of this rock is sloppy and is made of solid rock. The monks have occupied the area of Pidurangala since 2500 years as they lived in the caves nearer to the rock. Later a large temple and monastery has been constructed here at Pidurangala. Climbing to the top of the rock is very risky and tiring. So it is better to get yourself up only at the lower levels as it is very easy and convenient to get there.
