About

Kaludiya Pokuna forest in Kandalama has rich biodiversity and the ruins of ancient time are also scattered here. The forest is renowned for its sundry bird species. There are around 120 species of birds nesting here. It is home to many animals, to name some, tufted grey langur, purple faced langur, Asian elephants. The curving paths to the ancient ruins are lined on both sides with trees and paddy fields, riding on which is a pleasant experience. A Stupa, belonging to the 9th century AD, two ponds and some stone inscriptions can be found here. The name derives from one of the ponds which is black in colour from the olden times.
