About Sui Mata Temple
A temple close to the town area of Chamba. Legend has it that when Chamba was first built by Raja Sahil Varman, a problem occurred with his planned irrigation system. No fresh-water flowed! People began to think it was a supernatural curse! The royal priest said that water would only flow if a sacrifice was made. A young woman, named Rani, gave her life to spare her son and husband. This temple is a memento to her sacrifices for the people of the village.
