Golden Temple or Sri Harmandir Shahib is a grand structure originally conceived and designed by Guru Arjan sahib, this temple is the prime holy center for Sikhs all over the world. Once you cover your head (headscarves/bandanas) and enter the pool of footbath on bare foot, you can feel the strong spiritual sense and calmness that embraces you even in the middle of a pressing crowd. It is an amazing experience that one has to be there to believe it.
Majestically seated on the beautiful lake of Amrit Sarovar, this elegant and intricate structure of gold and marble is not only an aesthetically prominent architecture but also an embodiment of spiritual essence. This most visited and main attraction of Amritsar is though primarily a Sikh Temple, it also embraces multiculturalism by accepting devotees and visitors from all parts of world and all walks of life.
Here you can wander around all day listening to the reverberating chants and hypnotizing hymns feeling blissful and join the crowd for a meal from the clean and delicious communal free food in the kitchens. Later you can awe at the beautifully lit temple shimmering above and glittering in the lake below every evening during the Palki Ceremony. The Jubi tree here is believed to be very powerful.
Akal Takht, which literally means “The timeless” or “Eternal Throne” is the oldest of all takhts and the highest throne of Sikh believes and authority. It is also located inside the holy grounds of the Golden Temple. The holy sanctum of the Shrine is the abode of the ‘Adigrantha’-the sacred book of Sikhs.
